A school bus carrying 42 children and adults flipped on the New Jersey Turnpike on Aug. 11 blocking multiple lanes of traffic, authorities said.

Officials said the bus crashed at milepost 79.9 in East Brunswick, Middlesex County, causing lane closures in both the local and express lanes around 5:30 p.m.

According to Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, the bus was carrying school children and adults heading back to Newark from the Mayor’s Family Reunion and picnic at the Black Bear Lake Country Club in Millstone, New Jersey.

Authorities said the 42 occupants have been transported to local hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

Baraka has visited passengers from the crash who are being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

The state police have been working to clear the roads to resume traffic.

An investigation into the accident is currently underway.
