RondoNumbaNine, a 17-year-old Chicago rapper, was arrested for murder this week, according to reports.
Rondo, an up-and-coming rapper named Clint Massey, is being held on $2 million bail, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is suspected as one of two people who shot and killed Javan Boyd on Feb. 22.
Witnesses say Massey and another gunman fired shots at Boyd while he was in his car. He was shot seven times and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Boyd was a taxi cab driver and was working, waiting for a passenger when the two allegedly opened fire. Witnesses told police that the two used handguns.
Massey released several YouTube videos under his “RondoNumbaNine” moniker, getting hundreds of thousands of views. His song, “Shooters,” has been viewed more than 500,000 times.
In one of his videos, Massey raps “meet face to face, put a hole in your face, still beat the case ... glock go blah, damn, that’s great.”
Boyd, 28, was described as a “good boy” by a family member. He was trying to make a living supporting his 11-year-old daughter and fiancee.
“He was a good child,” aunt Trina Boyd, told the Tribune. “He didn’t have no enemies that I know of,” she said at the time of his death. “He was my baby.”
On Wednesday, people on Twitter were saying that Massey was innocent, retweeing messages with the #FreeRondoCampaign hashtag.
“ EVERYBODY #FreeRondoCampaign RT N TWEET IT !!!!” his Twitter account retweeted on Wednesday.
On Friday, he wrote: “I Murder [expletive],“ followed by, ”Ya nobody to sumbody kills u.” [sic]
Massey was taken into custody on Friday evening, the Tribune reported.
