LOS ANGELES—A man and two women wanted in a carjacking and attempted murder were arrested at the end of a police chase in South Los Angeles after a puppy was thrown from the vehicle, authorities said April 8.
During the pursuit, which started at about 12:12 p.m. Friday, a puppy was placed in a designer bag and tossed from the suspect’s vehicle, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. The puppy emerged unharmed, was rescued by officers and placed in the care of Los Angeles Animal Services’s South LA shelter.
The pursuit traveled throughout multiple Los Angeles County cities, ending in Carson, at Vermont Avenue and Belson Street, police said.
Los Angeles resident Gustavo Alvarez, 27, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and carjacking, which authorities said occurred on March 26 in the area of 101st and San Pedro streets. He was being held without bail.
Lynette Moreno, 27, of Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of setting up the second getaway vehicle. Moreno was booked on suspicion of being an accessory and evading. Her bail was set at $67,000.
Michelle Zamudio, 25, of Santa Monica, the alleged driver of the second getaway vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of evading. Her bail was set at $75,000.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
