York Regional Police (YRP) have released an aerial video of officers giving chase and apprehending four suspects believed responsible for a string of armed robberies in various areas around Toronto.

Police have asked the public to come forward if they witnessed any of the robberies or have relevant cellphone, dashcam, or video surveillance.

The video, released Feb. 3, is taken from the Air2 police helicopter by air support officers who were assisting Hold-Up Unit investigators and police units on the groundfrom the Canine Unit and Emergency Response Unit—to arrest four male suspects following armed robberies in the York, Durham, Peel and Halton regions.

Police have laid charges against the four individuals suspected to have been involved in a pharmacy robbery in Peel and a jewelry store robbery in Oakville, both on Jan. 18, in addition to a Jan. 19 robbery at an electrical supply store in Vaughan.

A 21-year-old male with no fixed address, a 20-year-old male from Stoney Creek, along with two youths—a 16-year-old male from Brampton and a 15-year-old male from Toronto—have been charged with a combined 46 criminal charges, which include “Robbery with a Firearm, Robbery, Disguise with Intent and Fail to Comply with Court Order,” said the YRP Feb. 3 news release.

The video shows a grey, four-door car parked outside a Scotiabank, which police identified as being located in the area of Victoria Street West and Gordon Street in the Town of Whitby. Three individuals dressed in dark pants and dark hoodies, with the hood covering their heads, exit the vehicle. A driver remains inside the car.

The video then captures three individuals running away from the bank, with police in pursuit.

According to the YRP, police were called to a currency exchange store on Jan. 20, shortly after 10 a.m., in the Yonge Street and North Lake Road area in the City of Richmond Hill, to respond to a report of an attempted armed robbery. Two male suspects armed with a firearm attempted to get inside the store as an employee was opening for the day, police learned.

“The victim was able to flee and the two male suspects left in a dark-coloured Mazda,” said the YRP news release.

Air2 located the vehicle, which had a stolen licence plate, on Highway 407 and monitored its travel into the Durham Region. The four male suspects then allegedly committed an armed robbery at the Scotiabank and tried to flee.

Anyone with information on these incidents are asked to contact the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
