Pharrell Williams is one of two new judges on “The Voice” and fans are wondering about his wife and his son.
Williams, 31, married Helen Lasichanh, 34, in 2013. They have a son, son Rockey Ayet.
Unlike Williams, a popular singer whose fame will likely grow even more for his turn as a judge on the hit NBC show, Lasichanh is a relative unknown who shies away from the spotlight.
However, she has earned accolades for her style, with the New York Post writing that the “reclusive” woman is “a style icon.”
“Like her hit-maker husband, Lasichanh has a daring and distinctive style. She wears European and Japanese designer brands, but picks unexpected pieces, steers clear of anything overtly sexy and appears to prize comfort over glamour,” it said.
“A fashion rebel, she tied the knot last fall in a navy tartan wedding dress. She’s not afraid to tower over her man at awards shows in 4-inch stilettos. And somehow, ‘H,’ as Pharrell affectionately calls her, makes even her most challenging outfits look cool.”
“Modesty on the red carpet can attract more attention than the reverse,” added Laura Brown, Harper’s Bazaar’s executive editor. “I wish more women dressed like Helen.”
In one of her rare public comments, she told the Post in regards to how she puts together her combos, “I don’t choose, it’s just who I am.”
Lasichanh attended St. Thomas University in Miami, where she was a star volleyball player.
She and Williams dated after knowing each other for about two-and-a-half-years.
Apparently he had to work hard to woo her, telling Oprah: “She didn’t answer half of my text messages (at first).”
“Egotistically, no (that didn’t intrigue me). I was like, ‘Oh yeah?’ because I had that kind of money and because I had that kind of reach, I thought I was entitled and I had learned that no, she has a boyfriend and she’s not interested.”
But that boyfriend later was out of the picture, prompting Williams to move in.
“She just reminded me so much of myself,” Pharrell told Oprah. “Different, and marches to the beat of her own drum.”
Williams adores his son as well and recently wrote the “Rocket Theme” for the “Despicable Me” soundtrack in honor of him.
Williams said on a daytime show in Australia earlier this year that he and his wife both like to keep a low profile.
“We appreciate our privacy but at the end of the day we’re normal people, when I’m not working we’re homebodies and Helen’s my best friend,” he said.
“We spend more time jumping on the bed than we do out partying, clinking glasses. That’s fun but I think there’s just so much more to the work we’re doing right now.”
