John Galdun, a veteran probabation officer in Orange County, won the Presidential Distinguished Service Award from the New York State Probation Officers Association.
The award is given annually to a probation officer that demonstrates exceptional competence in his work. Candidates usually must have at least 10 years on the job. Galdun is a Mount Hope resident who has held the position since 1987. He is known for dealing successfully with high risk offenders.
Galdun attributes his success to his mental approach to the work.
“I’m a glass half full type of guy. I hope that I can turn every case around for the better and a lot of time it works. I always try to remain positive.”
