The documentary explores one of the most fundamental questions of our existence—what happens to us after we die? The film features leading scholars who challenge the prevailing theology about heaven and hell and seek to unveil what they believe is the historic teaching of Christianity. It aims to foster a healthy relationship between organized religion and a diverse, modern culture.
“The foundation of a good society is the belief in a generous God. It’s time to share and celebrate the goodness of God,” said Daniel Knudsen, the film’s director. Knudsen uses the art of storytelling to examine the doctrine of the afterlife. He shares his own life experiences growing up in a religious home. The storyline attempts to offer an alternative to the fear or baggage that some may have in association with religion.
Knudsen retraces the early church’s steps and explores the Christian faith’s historical and geographical expansion. He examines what led to the doctrinal embrace of an eternal, conscious torment in the afterlife. The film’s overarching message is that evil will not remain part of God’s creation forever and that Jesus succeeded in His work to seek and save the lost.
