Driving on the interstate toward Maine, I spotted the turnoff for Walden Pond. I was headed to another cabin of sorts, one with a big fireplace and enough wood to last the season, a large and modern home with all the comforts but enough “roughing it” to introduce some degree of detachment to technology and vulnerability to the wiles of nature.
