Former rising Democrat Party star and Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard recently announced her departure from the Democratic Party in a formal video, causing uproar in the American media and political circles. Notably, with the mid-term elections less than a month away and the Democratic Party’s unfavorable ratings in the polls, Gabbard’s withdrawal represents quite a blow to the party.
The political parties in the United States are not Leninist parties. One may join or leave a party as he wishes. There is no introducer, no organizational approval, and certainly no gangster blood oath like the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) “death to the whole family for betrayal.”
But Gabbard’s withdrawal from the Democratic Party is still out of the ordinary. She was once the Democratic Party’s star of tomorrow and a 2020 presidential candidate. Most importantly, in her withdrawal statement, she launched a list of accusations against the Democratic Party, spelling out nine major flaws, each of them a deviation from the principles established by the Founding Fathers of the United States.
Gabbard began her statement by calling the Democrat leaders “an elitist cabal of warmongers,” and argued that it is the current Biden administration that has put the American people in the most dangerous position, leading to the brink of “nuclear war.”
“When we are at war, the military-industrial complex makes a lot of money. When politicians, even if we‘re not at war but we’re threatening that we may go to war, they make a lot of money. And these decisions are not made within the context of what our military actually needs,” Gabbard said on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Oct. 12. “It is very often when members of Congress are advocating for even more than what the military is asking for. Because of those cozy relationships with the military-industrial complex, these massive defense contractors, and their lobbyists.”
Gabbard herself had served in the military and was deployed to Iraq as a military officer in the Hawaii National Guard. She has always opposed excessive U.S. involvement in foreign wars, especially wars that aimed at overthrowing foreign governments, such as those in Iraq and Syria.
In her resignation video, she urged U.S. and NATO leaders to stop “fueling” the war and push for a negotiated outcome.
Secondly, Gabbard accused the Democratic Party of undermining the foundation of the rule of law in the United States with far-left campaigns such as “defund the police” and the release of criminals back onto the streets.
Moreover, she criticized the Biden administration for politicizing everything, including the Department of Justice, jeopardizing America’s democracy.
She cites the example that organizers of pro-life demonstrations have all been targeted for IRS investigation, with half of them receiving heavy prison sentences for “tax evasion” along with other attacks on political opponents of the left.
While she did not cite President Donald Trump as an example here—likely because she does not seem to like him—what happened to Trump could have illustrated her point more clearly: first accusations of collusion with Russia, then tax investigations, impeachments, and most recently, the unprecedented FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate.
Gabbard also slammed the “woke ideology” that declares men can become pregnant.
The issue of gender identity has been the subject of heated debate lately. There are many discussions on the internet over the question: “Can a man get pregnant?” According to the Democrats’ woke theories, a man can get pregnant because it depends on how the pregnant person identifies their gender. If she is biologically a woman and thinks she is a man, then a man can get pregnant. So, according to their form of political correctness, if you say a man can’t get pregnant, that constitutes “gender discrimination.”
Gabbard also discusses the destruction of the family by the far-left.
Families are the foundation, the basic element, of a society. Because the most extreme leftist agenda is now promoting transgender education in schools, children as young as 5 or 6 may choose to change their gender, without their parents’ knowledge, with the help of their teachers.
These teachers will encourage the child to think along these lines, and if the child feels that he or she prefers a gender that is different from his or her biology, the school will provide different clothing, decorations, toys, and even hormone-altering drugs—all of which can be done without the parents’ consent.
When parents object, the school can go to the government and legally take from these parents their right to custody of their child and place the child in a social support institution.
The problem is, as psychologists point out, children’s minds and psyches are very susceptible to change when they are immature. Young boys sometimes wish they were girls, or girls wish they were boys. But as they get older and their physical and mental states stabilize, they come to have a fixed perception of their gender roles.
Giving a child under the age of 10 medication or even surgery without notifying their parents is a means of destroying the family.
This brings us to the other issue Gabbard criticizes the Democrat Party over—free speech. She accuses the left, along with the leftist media and Big Tech, of censoring and suppressing dissenting views.
The Biden administration had tried to organize a government agency to determine what is true and what is not on the internet.
While pro-abortion advocates have rallied to besiege the homes of Supreme Court justices, and have even publicly threatened the judges and their families, the Democrat administration has tolerated this group’s actions, saying they are exercising their freedom of speech.
Gabbard also denounced the party’s hostility to “people of faith,” saying that Democrat leaders “actively try to undermine our religious freedom.”
“High-profile Democrat leaders openly mock and discriminate against people of faith, especially Christians,” she said.
This hostility actually started during the presidency of Barack Obama. Since then, “Merry Christmas” has become politically incorrect as they believe it is “offensive” to non-Christians.
As a non-Christian, I myself have no feelings whatsoever toward the “Merry Christmas” greeting. If what they claim is rational, when Chinese people greet each other with the Chinese New Year greeting “Kung Hei Fat Choy,” would it be “offensive” to non-Chinese?
Speaking on racial discrimination, Gabbard stated that the Marxist critical race theory promoted by the Democratic Party is a completely racist agenda that targets white people.
“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism,” she said.
Gabbard is of mixed race, of European and Samoan origin, and of Hindu faith, so racial and religious discrimination and the oft-used label of “white supremacist” cannot be easily applied to her. The impact she will have on the Democratic Party could go beyond November’s midterm elections.
Gabbard’s critique of the far-left is based on common sense and loyalty to the principles of the U.S. Constitution. For those of us who have lived under a communist dictatorship, the far-left schemes are all too familiar. Redefining and distorting moral values, and eventually brainwashing by violent means, are the same old communist tactics used by numerous authoritarian regimes. The far-left in the United States just wants to continue communism, literally translated as “communal ownership.“ Nonetheless, they will do what they’ve always done—take other people’s property, by force if necessary. The Chinese people know this very well.
