North Carolina Central University (NCCU) on Thursday was placed on lockdown on Thursday, with reports that a possible gunman was on the Durham campus. About 35 minutes later, the school lifted the lockdown measure.

The school wrote on Twitter: “Eagle Alert: The NCCU campus is on lockdown. Please stay away from all windows and doors. There is a possible active shooter on campus.”

It tweeted several minutes later that the “NCCU campus remains on lockdown. Please continue to shelter indoors.

WTVD-TV reported that crime tape and police activity were seen near the science building at the university.

A student told WTVD that he heard several gunshots followed by a siren. A teacher and students went inside a supply room and locked the door.

The station published an aerial photo on Twitter, showing a possible suspect in handcuffs being led out by police.

It is unclear if anyone was injured.

The school is located at 1801 Fayetteville St. in Durham, N.C.
