Police of a village in central China said they are searching for a man, who is alleged to have killed seven, including the village’s Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official and his family in the early morning of Oct. 25.
The temporary CCP secretary of Luohan village, near Wuhan city in Hubei Province, and his four family members were killed, local police said on Oct. 26.
Local police alleged that the suspect killed two more people before jumping off a bridge over the Yangtze River at 6 a.m. Monday, according to an official statement.
“Five people [dead], but we have no clue who is the murderer,” a neighbor who is also the dead official’s cousin told state-backed media The Paper on Tuesday.
The suspect visited the home of the local official, surnamed Zhang, on the evening of Oct. 24, Zhang’s young brother told The Paper.
“I saw him [the suspect] walked in,” the brother told The Paper. The suspect claimed he was looking for Zhang to solve something, and left about 20 minutes later, the report said.
Later at midnight, Zhang and his wife were found dead in their living room. The bodies of his daughter-in-law and a 12-month-old child were found on the stairs, the report said.
Two of Zhang’s grandchildren died at the scene. Police found one still breathing and that child was sent to the hospital.
Reports mentioned that the village official is also responsible for overseeing flood control measures.
Police said the case is under further investigation.
