HUNTINGTON BEACH—A commercial diver missing Jan. 16 off the coast of Huntington Beach was found dead.
“[Long Beach Fire Department] resources assisted Coast Guard and other area agencies in the search for a missing commercial diver off of oil platform Elly,” the Long Beach Fire Department tweeted about 10 p.m. “Utilizing Fire Boat 15’s sonar, the male diver’s body was located and recovered. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the missing diver.”
The diver went missing near the Elly Oil platform around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. The exact time and location where he was located were not immediately available.
The U.S. Coast Guard assisted local agencies including the LBFD, which responded to the area where the diver went missing.
“Coast Guard air and surface assets along with local partner agencies are actively searching for a missing diver in the vicinity of platform Elly off the coast of Huntington Beach,” the Coast Guard wrote on Twitter at 12:40 p.m.
