MIDDLETOWN, N.Y.—Firefighters were called to the Psychiatric Center in Middletown on Sunday morning to smother a blazing fire in the abandoned Solomon Kleiner Recreation building. On Monday morning, smoke could still be seen coming from the area of the building. An investigation into how the fire started is ongoing.

The fire drew so much water from that the city warned residents to be careful when washing whites because of the sediment that was stirred up. The city said the water was still safe to drink however.

In late may, the storage facility next to the Solomon Kleiner building also caught fire, but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading. Neither had electricity or running water.
