Yankees legendary closer Mariano Rivera will finally undergo surgery next Tuesday (June 12th) on his torn right anterior cruciate ligament, according to a report on the team’s website.
The injury originally occurred on May 3rd but had been held up due to a blood clot in his right calf. The blood clot is no longer an issue.
Rivera, 42, has been working out in the meantime to strengthen the knee. “Actually, I’ve been so busy with therapy that I don’t even think about it,” Rivera said. “When I come home, I’m tired, and then watching the games—it’s a full day.”
Rivera will need to if he still plans on coming back by next season. “I always believe in miracles, a lot of good things. We’ve got to get it fixed first.”
