POMONA, Calif.—A man was arrested March 20 after barricading himself inside a Pomona home, prompting a standoff that attracted a large police presence and forced the shutdown of surrounding streets.
According to the Pomona Police Department, officers responded to the 600 block of North Reservoir Street around 4:15 a.m. following a call from a woman who reported being concerned for her friend’s wellbeing.
Police responded to the scene, learning that the suspect—later identified as 29-year-old Ricardo Alvarado—may be armed with a gun. According to police, a woman escaped from the residence by crawling out a window, but a second female was still inside with the suspect.
Police established a perimeter around the home and evacuated some area residents as negotiators worked to talk the suspect out of the residence. Relatives of the suspect were also on the scene helping to coax the man out.
Alvarado surrendered and was taken into custody around 11:35 a.m., police said. No injuries were reported, but officers did recover firearms from the home.
The relationship between the man and the two women was not immediately known.
Alvardo was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment with violence, kidnapping, and removing or destroying a wireless communications device in order to prevent someone from using it to seek help.
