A horse weighing about 1,100 pounds (approx. 499 kg) was stuck in thick mud after the ground gave way. His owner tried her best to keep his head above the thick mud, refusing to give up on him and holding on to him for about three hours. Finally, the rescue team thought of a way to pull the trapped horse out before the rising tide came rushing in.
Nicole Graham was riding her horse along with her daughter on Feb. 26, 2012, when suddenly, the ground gave way. The mother and daughter managed to get out, but the poor horse was stuck in the mud at Avalon Beach in Geelong, Australia.
The entire rescue process can be seen in these following photos and the video.
The team first used fire hoses and then a winch to pull the 1,100-pound horse while Nicole stayed by Astro’s side throughout, trying to calm and comfort him, and also holding his head above the mud.
Nicole was told that Astro had to be sedated for his own and everyone else’s safety.
All throughout, Nicole stayed by her dear horse’s side, soothing and comforting him.
The energetic rescue team then managed to provide the pull the horse needed using a tractor brought in by a farmer.
The team managed to rescue him before the tide came in.
