More often than not, we as individuals are not looking at the right problem; thus, we fail to arrive at the right solution. Sometimes the problem might be glaring at us, but we tend to brush it off and try hard to find a solution for something that is not even relevant.

This puzzle is similar and might end up making your brain ache. If you think you’ve seen it all when it comes to puzzles, then you may be mistaken. Have a look at this problem and see if you can solve it!

The problem stated here has a twist, but it’s not too obvious in the beginning. Even being good at math won’t help you. The puzzle shows a numeral from 1 to 9 on the right side and on the left side a sign that asks people to share the image if they are able to find the error.

This image was posted by a Facebook user, named Antley Lamont Staten, on his Facebook page in May 2016, and since then, the post has gone viral. It has received some 174,000 reactions, 563 comments, and has been shared over 2 million times.

If you are having problems answering this gentleman’s riddle, then you are not alone. Some netizens just couldn’t understand what could be wrong with the pattern of increasing numbers from 1 to 9.

One user commented, “7 does not need a line through the middle!” While another curious user wrote, “4 and the 5.” A third one has an explanation for the 4 and 5 numbers too, stating, “It‘ s 4 and 5. 3 +6=9 2+5=7 not 8 and 1+4=5 not 7. That’ s how I looked at it”

However, it turns out that all these netizens were looking at the wrong part of the problem.

Are you one who would like to solve it by yourself, or would you like us to spoil it for you by spilling the right answer? Or how about we leave a clue for you: look at the image carefully, and this time, try looking at the whole picture and not just the math part of the puzzle.

For those who got it now, or even at your first try: Well done, good job. You can now bask in the well-deserved pride and tell your friends about it.

And the rest of you who didn’t happen to see it, the “mistake” is in the word itself. It has two letters interchanged, and is thus typed as “mitsake.”

Our brains function in such a way that we can understand words even when the letters are scrambled. The only requirement is that the first and last letters should be the correct ones, a cognitive process known as “Typoglycemia.” The principle is that readers can comprehend text despite spelling errors and misplaced letters in the words. It is an urban legend and internet meme that appears to be correct. The word is a portmanteau of “typo”, for typographical error, and “hypoglycemia”.

Indeed, this puzzle proves that one can learn something new every day and also serves to remind us to look for the solution to the right problem.
