Encouraging someone who is feeling down with positive messages can be a good move to cheer them up. One school cafeteria manager in Virginia knew this and decided to pen creative messages on bananas for the students.

Stacey Truman had been working in the cafeteria of Kingston Elementary School in Virginia Beach for nine years before bringing to fruition her idea of cheering up students with bananas.

Before the bananas are served to the students, Truman writes inspirational messages on them like, “If you dream it, then you can achieve it.”

And, “Be your best self!”

The students were excited when they saw these bananas.

“This was the first time she did it for the students, and when they came through the lunch line, they saw all these inspirational notes,” Sharon Shewbridge, the school’s principal, told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“They started calling them ‘talking bananas.’”

Shewbridge felt it was a good idea and decided to share it with the world via her Twitter page.

“I shared it on social media because we need more positive messages out there,” Shewbridge told TODAY. “Mrs. Truman is so encouraging and does so much for the students and staff at Kingston.”

Truman said that she first started encouraging her children through this method.

“I do it for my kids at home, so why not bring it here and do it for them because they are like my kids,” Truman told WTKR.

“Most of them I came up with myself because I would just think about what you would tell a kid or what you would want to hear yourself,” she added.

When Dole, a producer of fruit and vegetables, heard about the “talking bananas” initiative, the company donated 550 bananas to the school for Truman to write her messages on, 13 News Now reported. Truman couldn’t believe the attention she had been getting because of this simple gesture.

“I never expected recognition for this I’m just doing my job!” she told TODAY.

While it might look like a small gesture, we are sure it brightens up the students’ days, especially for those who happen to be feeling under the weather.
