When one woman noticed a person dump a pup, an armchair, and a television by the side of the road in Brookhaven, Mississippi, she immediately called animal control.

The puppy, who was lying on a broken armchair, appeared as though it just didn’t want to leave the chair—hoping its owner would come back.

Sharon Norton, a Brookhaven animal control officer, was called to the scene and noticed the terrible state the pup was in.

“He looks like he’s been there for about a week,” Norton told The Dodo. “He is skin and bones.”

Norton then reassured the pup that she was there to help and gave him his first meal in days.

“To the person that dumped this chair, your puppy was waiting for you to come back, slowly starving to death because it was afraid to leave the chair to find food. Shame on you for doing this to this puppy...but one day Karma will meet up with you,” Norton wrote on social media.

One user commented: “Oh this breaks my heart. Poor baby !!! God bless you for saving him. I’d look in back of chair or down sides for papers to see if I could find a name of may have done this.”

And user wrote: “That is so mean. They need to be arrested & the key lost forever. Pets has feelings to. We may not know who you are but God knows & you will pay for doing that. That is cruel!!” ???

“Every dog deserves a loving home, but not every home deserves a dog.”

According to WLBT, the pup is to be vetted and given plenty of nutritious food; it will then be taken to an animal shelter to await a forever home it deserves.

Here is an update from Sharon Norton: “I named him ”lazy boy Gatson“ he got that name because he was found Gatson Trail in a lazy boy.. he has been transported over to our local no-kill shelter Brookhaven Animal Rescue lady. Lazy Boy Gatson has made it to BARL and is on his way to his foster home. He is very underweight and has hair loss and a few scrapes, and intestinal parasites which he’s being treated for but other than that he’s going to be just fine. He’s a very loving and friendly guy. He wants to stay right beside you and constantly be loved on. We are currently taking applications on him.”

Dogs are faithful to their owners and often stay in one place awaiting for their loved ones—much like this poor pup.

Hope Against All Odds

One dog, who had almost given up hope, was one that was severely abused.

Angel, as she was named, was rescued in 2015 after starving, for who knows how long, on the streets of Palmdale, California. It’s not known how she ended up there as a stray; perhaps she was abandoned.

One kind person noticed the dog, who was reduced to a bag of bones—with hardly a spark of life left in her emaciated body—and called Rescue From the Hart. Rescuers were concerned that Angel was too far gone, but they were not prepared to give up on her. Being in such a shocking condition, Angel could only take in tiny amounts of water and food. Within the following two weeks, she gained almost 4 pounds (approx. 2 kg)—this was a major turning point.

Her body gained strength, and her spirits soon lifted. With all the love showered onto her, she was able to run around joyfully just like a puppy should. She now has a forever home with loving owners, and her transformation from that starving near-death skeletal dog has been amazing.

On April 15, Rescue From the Heart shared a smiling picture of Angel, and wrote: “Omg!!! Look who I ran into this morning when I was at the vet! Famous Angel and her brother Beasley.”

The post further read: “I can’t tell you how happy it made me to see her and her beautiful smile. She’s a true miracle and a testament to what our village can do when we team up together!! (Don’t worry, they were just at the vet for some routine checkup stuff.”

It is encouraging to see that for every non-caring and abusive person there are plenty of compassionate ones ready to undo the damage caused to abused animals. We can only hope those who commit these heinous crimes against animals can have an awakening, have a conscience, and make up for the harm they have created. Pets can’t just be discarded like a piece of furniture, we have a responsibility to care for them.
