Aggression is one of the most common behavioral issues among dogs and can turn out to be dangerous if not addressed in time. It clearly becomes a serious concern to pet owners when their dogs begin to snarl, growl, snap, and bite.
While some owners seek professional assistance, others prefer to abandon or euthanize them. Thankfully, there are still a few animal shelters that know how to provide these creatures with a new lease of life.
Candy, Angel, and Katie, three 11-year-old female Shih Tzu dogs, were brought to Spokane Humane Society by their owner one day. The dogs were in terrible condition, with matted hair all over them.
According to the owner, the dogs would often behave aggressively and were reported to be biters. As a result, the trio was brought to the society to be euthanized.
The kindhearted staff at the society saw the three little ladies and felt sorry for them.
“Their nails were so long they curled like buck horns. All three had bad teeth—they were a smelly, miserable trio and quite possibly also in a lot of pain,” they added.
The staff then took the matter into their own hands and decided to go against euthanization while convincing the dogs’ owner to leave the dogs in the care of the society.
They soon got down to doing everything possible to get the dogs back in good shape.
The first task was to shave each dog and give them a healthy look.
Nearly 13 pounds (approx. 6 kg) of tangled and matted fur was removed carefully by the staff at the society.
Next, their bodies were checked for all sorts of infections, sores, and cuts and treated accordingly. The trio was now on the course for a better and healthier life.
Apart from the staff at the Spokane Humane Society, the local community also deserves its share of credit for stepping up to fund the ladies’ medical bills. Nearly US$3,000 was raised after the society requested for help.
The once-aggressive dogs turned into adorable and loving pooches as all the baggage from the past was removed.
“We knew we’d probably find some health issues under all that fur,” the society wrote, “but what we also found were three handsome–though slightly chubby–little dogs with big brown eyes and surprisingly easygoing personalities. No one bit anyone.”
Once the dogs were fully recovered and in super-duper shape, they would be placed for adoption. The staff would ensure that the lovely ladies would only go to those adopters who would take care of their grooming needs.
Thanking the community for its help, the society wrote: “This is part of what we do: we take on what looks like hopeless cases and give them another chance at life—and we couldn’t continue to do that without your support.”
Animal lovers on social media have sent their appreciations to the society for its incredible efforts.
While another added, “Thank you folks, and that means those who donated to help them out as well.”
“Love the rescues and save a little life, they need you to take care of them!! All they want is to have a great home,” wrote another.
We hope that the trio will soon find their way to the homes of loving families.
