Chances are, most people being furiously chased through a park would be on the phone calling the police as soon as humanly possible.

For most  people, though, it’s not too likely that the person chasing them isn’t going to be a human at all—and only stands less than a foot tall!

For one man from Germany, though, a tiny squirrel chased him through a park so aggressively and relentlessly that he ended up calling for law enforcement backup, who arrived just in time to see the squirrel fall asleep from exhaustion.

Naming the tiny creature Karl-Friedrich, the police station has decided to adopt it as their mascot.

While all has ended well, though, it turns out that there was actually a valid reason for the man to be a bit concerned—and a logical explanation for the chase, as well.

According to police spokeswoman Christina Krenz in a discussion with the Guardian, the squirrel had likely lost its mother and was exhibiting typical behavior for its kind when something like that happens.

“It often happens that squirrels which have lost their mothers look for a replacement and then focus their efforts on one person,“ she explained, confirming that for the unsuspecting park-goer that kind of experience can be what she described as ”pretty scary.”

Hopefully, the entire ordeal didn’t rattle either the man or the squirrel too badly!
