The world knows John Stamos best for his role as Uncle Jesse on the sitcom “Full House” and even earlier as Blackie Parrish on the soap drama “General Hospital.” His smiling, always-affable funny persona has made him a memorable TV icon.

He rarely puts emotions like heartbreak on full display. But when he lost his long-time best friend, a German shepherd named Linka, the tribute he posted on social media revealed a solemn side to the charismatic actor.

Fans saw pics of Linka posted on Stamos’s social channels over the years, typically out by the pool with the 55-year-old Greek-American actor as he splashed around in the sun at his home.

The sweet-tempered pup passed away in 2016, though, and Stamos didn’t just let the heartbreak fester in silence. He posted yet another pic of the adorable Linka on his Instagram page, this time letting the world know just how much she had meant to him.

“She was always there, especially in the dark times. Never judging. By my side. Only loyal. #ripLinka,” he wrote.

Stamos has led a successful career in the world of TV and film. He made a whopping 192 appearances on the original “Full House,” which aired from 1987 to 1995, before producing the spin-off “Fuller House.”

He garnered a cult following for his roles on both “General Hospital” and “ER” to go with over 60 other billings and credits over the decades. But even with a bright career like his, having a loyal companion K-9—especially through multiple publicly scrutinized relationships—can be a grounding presence. He would joke that she was the reason to keep things quiet in the media, providing that balance between constantly being recognized and being an everyday citizen.

“I have a dog that I love a lot but I don’t talk about her publicly,” he once joked to Us Weekly about the adorable dog. “She’s very sensitive when it comes to press.”

Luckily, he’s got someone new in his life to keep him happy and grounded. In the spring of 2018, he shared that he and his wife now had a baby boy named Billy, whom he introduced to the world with the cheeky hashtag #NotJustAnUncleAnymore.

To add to that, he now has a pair of new dogs, Frieda and Lilo, who each have their own Instagram account and seem to spend plenty of time getting to play around with Stamos and his family. Frieda is a German shepherd like Linka, while Lilo brings a new small dog presence to the house as a tiny but sweet shelter rescue mix.

Even though his other two pups are clearly loved and treasured, though, it’s hard to imagine that he doesn’t still miss the one that got him through so many years in his career. It’s somehow comforting to see a celebrity show that they miss when losing a furry friend, just like the rest of us, to see inside the heart behind the on-screen characters they grew up with.
