Someone called the rescue team about a German shepherd that was trapped in a fenced compound where street signs are stored. She had walked in, apparently, and had been trapped when the gate closed behind her.
She was starving, and there would be no way for her to get food or water.

When rescuers Lisa Arturo and JoAnn Wiltz arrived on the scene, they spotted the shepherd behind the fence and some signs. With some bits of chicken and a sweet call, they enticed her to come over to the wire fence, but soon realized that without someone to open the gate, there would be no way to free her. So, they left her some food and water and decided to call the property manager and return the next day.
The next day, they returned to find the shepherd waiting for them, and the manager unlocked the gate. When the shepherd approached, they noticed she was limping and had what looked like a crusty collar embedded tightly around her neck. Thankfully, this dog was not terrified of humans, as some strays tend to be, and with food as an incentive, they managed to lure her into their dog trap and whisk her off into their SUV.
“Okay, we decided to name you Elsa,” Arturo told her reassuringly. “It’s a pretty name just like you are. We’re going to find out what’s wrong with your neck and why you’re limping okay?” Perhaps Elsa did not know it at the time, but her life on the streets was over.
And their next stop would be the vet.
They soon learned from the vet that the crusty collar was not a collar at all; it was an infected wound where a collar once had been digging into her neck. She also had a broken hind foot.

Before long, though, they had treated her wounds, and she soon recovered.
“Good times!” Arturo exclaimed joyfully. “Good times!”
Elsa still needs a kind soul to take her into their home forever, though. But in the meantime, we can all rest assured that her life on the streets is over, and she’s in the hands of some truly caring people.
