Police officers are faced with all sorts of situations, and for two sergeants in Australia, the rescue of a marsupial from the ocean was definitely a unique one.
Rosebud is a seaside town on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. It is a holiday place for thousands of tourists each year, and it would appear furry four-legged friends of the hopping variety enjoy a dip in the ocean there as well.
However, one kangaroo got itself into difficulties and appeared to be drowning.
That’s when two officers of the law, Sergeants Christopher Russo and Kirby Tonkin, rushed into the waves to rescue the roo, then proceeded to perform CPR in order to revive it.
Bystanders rushed over to help, bringing blankets to keep the marsupial warm.
It is one lucky roo, as it was successfully revived and then taken in by a local wildlife center after a vet gave it the all clear.
Mia Grant captured the dramatic rescue on video and wrote on Facebook that the kangaroo had earlier in the day narrowly avoided another accident when a bus almost hit it.
Just another day in the life of police officers doing their duty, and a day the kangaroo won’t forget anytime soon either.
