The Infiniti QX50 is powered by a VC-Turbo four-cylinder engine, delivering 268 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque in the band of 1,600-4,800 rpm. This power output driving AWD results in a fuel consumption rating of 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, for a combined average of 25 mpg.
Inside, the QX50 has leatherette eight-way power adjustable seats with two-way driver lumbar, ornamented by painted interior trim accents. Dual-zone automatic climate control keeps things nice and cozy inside, especially during the long hot summer we usually have in Texas.
Rear seats slide, recline, and fold flat to add flexibility with expanding cargo volume, providing 64.4 cubic feet behind the first row.
This Infiniti is loaded with technology, well represented by the standard ProPILOT Assist which includes Steering Assist and Advanced Intelligent Cruise Control with full speed range, stop and hold. Infiniti InTouch dual-display infotainment system makes a dominant presence with an upper 8-inch and a lower 7-inch touch screen display in the center stack. Standard audio system produces sound from AM/FM/CD, SiriusXM, USB, and Bluetooth streaming through six speakers. Bluetooth hands-free Phone System keeps your hands on the steering wheel. You also have wireless Apple CarPlay and USB-based Android Auto for integration with compatible phones.
The cabin is quiet even at high speeds and on rough roads. Fuel economy is not as good as it needed to be. Acceleration was only fair, not much improvement from last year.
The exterior is fronted by LED automatic on/off headlights and flanked by power outside mirrors plus body-colored door handles with LED welcome light. Rear privacy glass rounds up the back. The whole package rides on 19-inch silver painted aluminum painted alloy wheels with run-flat all season tires.
The power liftgate makes for easy loading and unloading, while the Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition makes for a quick and easy start for your driving adventure.
QX50 is roomy with loads of cargo space. Getting in and out was a breeze, even with my bad back. The QX sits and acts like a sports car, but the wide doors allows you to leave or return to your seat with ease.
Overall, I enjoyed my week of driving. One of the best features was the Panoramic Moonroof with power sunshade which is standard on the Essential trim.
Standard safety items include a whole menu of features helping to ensure that you will arrive at your destination safely. Other than the above mentioned ProPILOT Assist, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Rear Cross Traffic Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Intervention, and Predictive Forward Collision Warning are just a few examples.
2022 Infiniti QX50 AWD received a 5-star Overall Safety Rating from NHTSA. It earned 4 stars in frontal crash and rollover tests, but received 5 stars in side crash tests.
2022 Infiniti QX50 compact utility vehicle starts at $39,150 for the base Pure FWD trim. The Essential model is two models up, and the MSRP starts at $48,950 for the AWD version.
