2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe

Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe is powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine assisted by electric drive motors and 8P75PREV 8-speed automatic transmission.

This first-ever electrified Wrangler will be initially offered in three trim levels: Sahara 4xe, Rubicon 4xe, and High Altitude 4xe. Focus for this column will be on the Rubicon. The gas-electric hybrid Wrangler will go from 0-60 mph in just under 6 seconds. The energy to drive the motors is stored in a 17kWh battery pack.

The Wrangler 4xe gets 20 mpg on gasoline engine alone, and 49 MPGe with electric assist. Driving with purely electric power, the 4xe can go 21 miles. This range and mileage will be sufficient for most daily commuting and hours of off-road adventures.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is reported to be the greenest and most capable Wrangler ever created.

Inside, you will be greeted by an 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect 4C infotainment system in the center stack, and a 7.0-inch TFT display in the gauge cluster. Modern connectivity features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM Guardian, SiriusXM Traffic Plus, and Emergency Assistance Call.

Leather-trimmed bucket seats and premium wrapped instrument panel bezels warm up your perception as the air conditioning with automatic temperature control aids interior comfort. Power front windows with one-touch-down encourage you to outside discovery.

Outside, Firecracker Red Clear Coat Paint merges with Premium Tan Sunrider Soft Top. This exterior color palette is decorated by a full-size spare tire, 2 front and 1 rear tow hooks, power heated mirrors, and the two round headlights.

All this good stuff rests on 17-inch X 7.5-inch machine polished black wheels and off-road tires.

Jeep Wrangler is a versatile vehicle. It rolls along in big city traffic with its quickness and easy parking, while it tackles more rural roads with ruggedness and dependability. But let’s be honest, Wrangler was bred for off-road travel.

An example of the Jeep Wrangler’s off-road capabilities is the doors. They are easily removed thanks to the exposed door hinges. Without doors, you are much closer to the wilderness environment you are navigating. There are also tube doors which maintain the open atmosphere while providing added safety.

One issue with completely removing the doors is that the side mirrors go with them. There is an $192 Doors-Off Mirror Kit by Mopar that solves the problem.

I experienced little wind noise driving the Wrangler with doors attached, whether on highways or farm-to-market roads.

Equipped with the available Sky One-Touch roof option, the touch of a button folds the roof back. You do lose the ability to completely remove the rear window.

Because Wrangler has a tapered nose you have great forward visibility.

Manufacturer’s Base Price starts at $51,225 for the Rubicon 4xe.

There is over $10,000 in optional equipment offered. I would recommend the steel front and rear bumpers ($1,745) and Advanced Safety Group ($795) featuring Advanced Brake Assist, Automatic High Beam Headlights Control, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop.
