2019 Mercedes AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ Sedan

Mercedes AMG E 63 S is specifically crafted with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that is capable of up to 603 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft. of torque. This massive motor is accompanied by an AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed multi-clutch transmission. Driving feel is customizable through AMG Dynamic Select, which offers 4 preset modes of Normal, Sport, Sport+, and Slippery. The E 63 S mileage is rated at 18 mpg city and 23 mpg highway for a combined average of 20 mpg.

Since it takes some special equipment to harness such powerful car, AMG provides its high-performance braking system for stopping power. AMG also brings its electronic limited-slip differential for improved power distribution on slippery surfaces.

Inside, Mercedes AMG incorporates a good list of features to bring comfort, aural fidelity, visual pleasantries, seating engineering, and ergonomics up to the mark you would expect from such a famed brand. These include power front seats with memory, 3-zone automatic climate control, power rear-window sunshade, 64-color LED ambient lighting, and illuminated door sills.

All this luxury is centered by AMG Exclusive Nut Brown/Black Nappa leather. Complementary natural grain brown ash wood trim provides elegant accents.

The cabin’s center piece is the 12.3-inch display panel and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND) System is the digital smart to keep everything connected, with first-rate modern features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and wireless phone charging. The touchpad controller will draw the attention of anyone entering the vehicle for the first time. At the same time Mercedes provides a “Mercedes me connect” smartphone app that has various remote tracking and control functions for the sedan. Another convenient connectivity feature is in-car 4G LTE WiFi hotspot.

Even with all these great features, my overall favorite was Active Parking Assist, which identifies suitable parking spots and helps with parallel parking.

The front cabin is rather large, and yet there is still adequate room in the back. Seat back buttons and door lock buttons are visible and easily read, but automatic windows switches and outside mirror controls are located so near the door handle it makes them difficult to locate and use.

For me, the overall challenge was the advanced technology. Since I am already technologically challenged I was a little frustrated. But then I realized that for most folks it would be a wonderful experience, as opposed to my own backwardness. My freshman college American History classes would be right at home.

Larger font on the gauges displayed on the instrument cluster would have been helpful. Craftsmanship and attention to detail were superb. Just to sit in this fashionable and luxurious automobile raised my pulse level.

There is a tremendous trunk space in the back of the E 63. Arm rests are wide and comfortable, with abundant storage space underneath.

My residential driveway is on a slight incline which is just steep enough to hinder the front doors from holding open fully. The doors are strong but they don’t have a catch with enough strength to stay open unassisted when getting out of the car.

The moment you set foot inside this Mercedes AMG you feel special. You know you may be one of the few to ever enjoy this experience and the pride of ownership.

I am always a little amused when I pull into a fashionable restaurant and watch the valet joist to see who gets to park my E 63 S. Once a winner is selected, you get to hear the praises offered about your vehicle as he opens the door for you and your lady. Plus they can always remember exactly where to retrieve it. After all, who couldn’t remember where their AMG is parked.
