Actor Jeremy Renner has undergone surgery after sustaining blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries following a snowplowing accident in Nevada on New Year’s Day, his publicist has confirmed.

“We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today,” his publicist, Samantha Mast, said in a statement to multiple publications on Monday evening. “He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.”

“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve, and the Carano and Murdock families,” the statement continued. “They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Renner, 51, was airlifted to the hospital after officers from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported traumatic injury in the area of the Mt. Rose Highway in Reno at 9 a.m. on Jan. 1.
In a statement, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said that Renner was the only person involved in the accident and did not provide further details regarding the extent of the actor’s injuries or what may have caused them.

Officials are looking into the circumstances of the incident.

Renner’s accident came as a powerful winter storm hit the United States over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, resulting in at least 60 weather-related deaths throughout the country.

Winter Storm Prompts Record Snowfall in Reno

Meanwhile, thousands have been left without power while both domestic and international flights have been canceled, leaving many stranded.

The Reno area saw heavy snowfall over the weekend, with the Reno-Tahoe International Airport reporting a daily record of 9 inches of snow on Dec. 31.

TMZ reported that Renner had been plowing a road at his home on the morning of New Year’s Day so that his family could get out after a snowstorm. One of Renner’s neighbors told the publication that the plowing machine accidentally ran over one of his legs, causing him to lose a large amount of blood.

Another neighbor, a doctor, was reportedly able to place a tourniquet on star’s leg until paramedics arrived to fly him to the hospital.

Renner’s publicist did not provide further details regarding the accident and what caused his injuries.

“We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” Renner’s representative confirmed in a statement to Variety shortly after the accident. “His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care.”

Renner currently stars in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown” and Marvel’s “Hawkeye” series on Disney+. The actor has also starred in a string of other films including “The Avengers”, “Captain America”, “American Hustle”, “Rogue Nation” and the “Mission Impossible” movie franchise.

The actor, who shares a 9-year-old daughter with his ex-wife Sonni Pacheco, was also nominated for an Academy Award for his performances in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town.”

Renner is next set to appear in the second season of “Mayor of Kingstown”, a Paramount+ crime drama, which is set to air in two weeks.
