Hong Kong—The 2017 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy competition held at Mega Ice from August 2 to 5, brought some great skating talent to Hong Kong. The better skaters were truly artistic and performed beautifully, putting together impressive routines.

With the exception of the Pairs which was won by Korea, Japan secured winning positions in all of the main events - Junior Girls, Junior Men and in the Ladies and Men’s competitions. Korean competitors also featured very strongly in these events securing 2nd or 3rd places.

Hong Kong skaters struggled to get into the medals, however the best of Hong Kong skaters look extremely capable of producing skillful performances but on the day made a few costly mistakes.

For instance Yi Christy Leung in the Junior Girls competition, finished in 6th place but put on a fast, stylish and polished performance, most of her programme was excellent but she missed a couple of edges affecting her score. But she seems very capable of competing successfully at the top level in Asia.
