Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Feb. 22 gave an update on his cancer treatment.
In a video to Progressive Change Campaign Committee supporters, Raskin gave a positive prognosis and his appreciation for the support he’s received.
“I’m midway through my treatments here,” he said. “I’ve done three of six rounds of chemotherapy, and you guys have completely bolstered my courage and my confidence. So I just wanted to say thank you to the team at PCCC and to all of you guys out there from Alaska to Florida, Hawaii to Maine.”
Raskin also expressed thanks to people who’ve sent him gifts.
“I’ve got my own constitutional preamble bandana. I’ve got flag hats,” he said. “I’ve got people’s own chemo hats that worked for them, from a place called Alex’s Lemonade Stand. I got some bandanas. So my cup runneth over. And of course, a bunch of people sent me my own true blue Democrat mask.”
Raskin has been seen wearing a bandana in Congress and on TV due to hair loss from chemotherapy. He wore a bandana in the video thanking supporters.
Raskin went on to thank supporters for sending him notes and essays about his late son Tommy Raskin, who took his own life on Dec. 31, 2020, following a battle with depression. He also thanked people for what they said about the House committee during the 117th Congress investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Raskin was a member of the committee. He was the lead House manager for former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment following the attack. Trump was ultimately acquitted in the Senate trial.
“Thank you for everything you said about us hanging tough for democracy and freedom against all the autocrats and all the theocrats and all the plutocrats of the world, from Putin and Moscow to Trump in Mar-a-Lago, all over the world,” Raskin said.
Raskin did not respond to a request for comment from The Epoch Times.
Raskin, who has been in Congress since 2017, announced his cancer diagnosis on Dec. 28.
