WASHINGTON—Kay Wakatake is a distinguished lawyer of Japanese and Korean descent. Mrs. Wakatake attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center Opera House on Jan. 31.
“I thought it was wonderful,” Mrs. Wakatake said. “It was very magical.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun brings to life the 5,000 years of ancient China through classical Chinese music and dance.
Mrs. Wakatake said she thought Shen Yun was a great cultural experience, and she was interested in seeing classical Chinese dance. “I had never seen any of that before, and to learn that it’s part of the Chinese culture was educational for me,” she said.
Mrs. Wakatake was recognized as one of the Best Lawyers Under 40 in 2011 by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps in 2012, and is a member of the Advisory Committee to the Standing Committee of Law and National Security for the American Bar Association.
“I really enjoy it. I thought it was beautiful,” she said. Mrs. Wakatake said that she feels like she could dance after watching Shen Yun. “I would love to—just move the way the beautiful dancers move. The music and the scenery was beautiful,” she said.
Mrs. Wakatake said that Shen Yun and its stories were very powerful. She felt very privileged to be able to see Shen Yun in America, since Shen Yun is currently not allowed to perform in China due to communist rule.
Mrs. Wakatake said, “Thank you so much for the wonderful performance.”
