IRVINE, Calif.—A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder for allegedly fatally stabbing his 69-year-old father in the Irvine home they share, authorities said Jan. 15.
The death occurred on Windwood in the Woodbridge community, according to Sgt. Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department.
Bruce Shipper failed to show up for work and a coworker went to the residence to check on him Saturday morning, Davies said. Police said the man’s son, Tyler Shipper, answered the door, appeared disheveled, and would not let the coworker inside.
The coworker called 911, resulting in officers and Orange County Fire Authority firefighters responding, she said. Officers found Bruce Shipper inside the home.
“It appears Tyler and the decedent are the only residents at the location,” Davies said. “Tyler did not appear to be injured and the motive remains under investigation.”
A knife suspected of having been used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene, she said.
Tyler was arrested on suspicion of homicide.
Irvine police urged anyone with information regarding the incident to call them at 949-724-7098.
