How to Build a Fire in Nine Easy Steps: Photo instructions for the urbanite on how to build a fire in a raised fire pit.
Step 2: Fold the rolls in half and then fold up the ends to create a little stand. Stack these stands one on top of the other to create a pyramid of newspaper.
Step 3: Place your twigs and small branches around the newspaper like your building a teepee. Break any long ones so they are less than one foot long.
Step 4: Add larger branches around the outside of the smaller branches, building up the teepee.
Step 5: Use matches or a lighter to light the end of the hollow newspaper tube that is sticking up near the edge of the pit.
Step 6: Continue around the pit in a circle, lighting both ends of each hollow newspaper tube. The fire will travel down the newspaper tube into the center of the twig teepee.
Step 7: Add your biggest chunks of wood or your log along side the teepee. Make sure not to knock your teepee over, your fire is still gaining strength.
Step 8: Now she’s a-blazin! Put those hands out and enjoy!
