The Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) Women League comprising nine teams started its 2013-2014 schedule last weekend Saturday Nov 2 and Sunday Nov 3 with two matches being played.

Citizen Eastern played Shatin at Causeway Bay Sports Ground on Saturday Nov 2 and, Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) were at home to Goodbellas on Sunday Nov 3.

At Sports Road the Football Club Ladies made an emphatic start to their match against Goodbellas with captain Andrea Fraser scoring two goals in the first eight minutes of the game. Club continued to stay in command for much of the first half but Goodbellas fought back and scored just before half time to make the score 2-1 to HKFC.

After the break, Football Club were still pushing forward and a long range shot from defender Amanda Sealy 20 minutes into the half gave Club Ladies their third goal, and what should have been enough to seal the match. But the Goodbellas had other ideas.

With just 10 minutes to go, a foul in the box allowed the visitors to score from the penalty spot bringing the score to 3-2.

However, the real drama came in the 94th minute. With the HKFC Ladies’ supporters and management urging the referee to blow his full-time whistle, a last gasp attack from Goodbellas led to a corner kick and after an initial clearance the Goodbellas forced the ball into the goal to tie the game 3-3.

But it was a determined start to the season for both teams with many positives to take away from a well-contested and action-packed match.
