Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), a member of the House Oversight Committee, has stated that information presented by an IRS whistleblower might bring President Joe Biden to the point of impeachment.
The whistleblower, who claimed to be with the IRS for more than 10 years, sent a letter to Congress on Tuesday seeking legal protection in exchange for information showing how “preferential treatment and politics” have been infecting the probe into alleged tax violations by Biden’s son Hunter.
The letter, delivered by attorney Mark Lytle, also claimed that the whistleblower has proof that would “contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee” and involve a “failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition of the case.” There has been speculation that the “senior political appointee” was Attorney General Merrick Garland.
While the letter didn’t mention Hunter Biden by name, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement that he was “deeply concerned” that the Biden administration may be “obstructing justice by blocking efforts to charge Hunter Biden for tax violations,” and that his colleagues have been “wondering all along” about the apparent inaction of the DOJ and IRS.
Morell himself was one of the signatories, who wrote that their “experience makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case.”
“If I was [among] those 51 people, I'd be lawyering up right now because they’re going to be asked in public at some point what they knew and if they knew that all this other stuff was going on because it is very damning,” Burchett said.
At the time, the Biden campaign and mainstream media used the letter to discredit the New York Post’s reporting on the information retrieved from the laptop, including an email suggesting Biden, as U.S. vice president, had been involved in some of his son’s business deals in Ukraine and China.
“If this cover-up shows what’s going on, that we all assume is going on, and that the 51 folks were basically lied to and showed false documentation, how can you not [impeach Biden]?” said Burchett. “I mean, this is just going on too much.”
“Like I said, the documentation that I’ve seen, I can’t comment on all of it,” the congressman continued. “But what I can comment on is that it is bad, and it is getting worse, and it is showing illegal monies from Chinese communists flowing into this White House via Hunter Biden and his lawyers.”
“How could we not impeach Biden if this does, in fact, reach him?” he added.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who heads both the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, has demanded that State Secretary Antony Blinken provide information regarding Morrell’s accusation by May 4.
