SAN FRANCISCO—“You could not ask for something better,” said Ben Beckman about Shen Yun Performing Arts after seeing a performance with a friend Saturday night at the SHN Orpheum Theatre.
“It was just fantastic,” said Mr. Beckman, who was formerly the director of operations for parking and traffic for San Francisco.
“The quickness of the footwork was phenomenal,” he said. “The dancing, the smoothness, the rhythm, the music, the singing—you could not ask for something better. It is just one of the greatest shows I’ve seen.”
New York-based Shen Yun presents 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through dance, music, and song.
The dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance and perform ethnic and folk dances from China’s numerous ethnicities and sub-ethnicities.
Mr. Beckman’s friend Fran, who is ethnically Cantonese, said the performance brought her closer to her roots.
“I liked it because it’s part of my heritage and I’ve never seen dances like that … It kind of brings me closer to my people,” she said.
Mr. Beckman said he would definitely recommend the show to his friends. “You have to see it. You don’t want to miss this,” he said.
Fran said she plans to come back next year. “We go to a lot of different events and this is going to be a repeated one next year for us.”
