The ministers discussed a range of issues including the Israel–Hamas conflict, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and ongoing challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
The talk occurred during the Chinese foreign minister’s second of a three-day visit to Washington, the latest in a series of high-level bilateral exchanges.
The meeting came as questions swirl around the durability of Xi Jinping’s political and military leadership after a second Chinese minister disappears.
China erased all information about Qin Gang from the foreign ministry’s website, shortly after removing him from the minister’s post following his month-long unexplained absence. But Mr. Qin’s meetings started to reappear on July 28.
