Thanks to a split Supreme Court ruling, Pennsylvania will count its mail-in ballots up until November 6th—three days after the election, even if they don’t have a postmark.
The Supreme Court Justices were divided 4 to 4 over a bid to overturn a ruling by the lower court to allow the extension.
Because of the equal division caused by the vacant 9th seat that belonged to the late Justice Ginsberg, the lower court’s ruling in favor of state Democrats stays in place.
On Twitter, Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax said he’s officially called for Virginia’s registration deadline to be extended.
The Virginia State Conference of the civil rights organization NAACP is also calling on the governor to extend the deadline for 72 hours, once the online voter registration system is restored.
