New York’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is the biggest and oldest in the world. It draws out the Irish in everyone, but who was St. Patrick exactly?

It’s been around so long you may have forgotten. Or maybe it’s just diminished in our minds. But the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City is awesome.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is an annual event where all things green emerge. From green beads to green beards, it’s a world-wide celebration of an Irish tradition.

Shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, and all things Irish were celebrated, as the city braved freezing temperatures on Sunday afternoon in honour of the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The 2014 New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set for Monday, March 17, at 11 a.m. local time.
