Google is reportedly planning to move into the wireless carrier market by selling cellphone plans using T-Mobile and Sprint towers to deliver the service. Essentially, Google would be buying cellular bandwidth wholesale and then selling it under their own brand name.
Yesterday Sprint stopped selling its two Windows Phones, the HTC 8XT and the Samsung ATIV S Neo after more than 18 months on the market. A respectable period, especially when compared to Verizon’s calendar.
According to Neil Shah, analyst at Counterpoint Technology Market Research T-mobile bought 6 million smartphones in the first quarter, compared with Sprint’s 5 million.
T-Mobile USA took another hurdle toward completing its merger with Metro PCS. The FCC announced March 12 it will allow the merger to go through. Shareholders still have to approve the deal in a vote on March 28 but two large shareholders oppose the transaction.
