An armed Japanese ship has entered the scene of tension between activists and whalers in the Antarctic Sea, according to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Sea Shepherd conservation group prevented the refueling of a Japanese whaling fleet in the Antarctic on Wednesday, effectively halting the hunt for the remainder of the season.
Australia criticized Japan for sending its whaling fleet to the Southern Ocean to hunt whales, dismissing Tokyo’s longstanding claims that its vessels are hunting them for scientific purposes.
The whaling activist group Sea Shepherd said on Thursday that one of its ships was damaged severely by a rogue wave while in pursuit of a Japanese whale hunting ship.
