The 3-day 2016 California Insurance International Match Racing Series was held in very variable wind and weather conditions in Victoria Harbour from April 22 to 24. The series was won by Singapore yachtsman Maxi So and his crew.
HONG KONG—The approach of Typhoon Maysak to the eastern shores of the Philippine archipelago upset the traditional, Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club organized, Easter race to the Philippines. Instead a shorter (approx 330nm) offshore race was organized, navigating four marks in the North China Sea and returning back to Hong Kong. This year (2015) should have been the biennial 480nm San Fernando race which alternates annually with the 565nm China Sea Race to Subic Bay.
HONG KONG—The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Autumn Regatta which took place on Saturday and Sunday Sept 13 and 14 heralds the beginning of a new Yacht Racing Season for the Club with many activities planned over the coming months.
The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Tomes Cup pursuit race—part of the Top Dog Trophy Series—took place under light wind conditions in Victoria Harbour on Saturday March 1, with Ruffian, Pandora and Longtze classes leading the field of 58 boats.
The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Spring Regatta held in Victoria Harbour on Saturday and Sunday May 18-19 attracted nearly 100 boats covering 10 Classes. As usual there was a lot of disruption by ferry boats, cruise ships and barges, which caused complexities to the racing.
Geoff Hill’s Antipodes had an almost perfect run in the bi-annual 480 Nm 19th RHKYC San Fernando Race 2013 from Hong Kong to Philippines last weekend (March 27 to March 29) to take line honours and the IRC trophy.
