The 2008 World Paddle Tennis Championships have been a pleasure to cover as players from all over the world introduced Canada to this unique, fast-paced and intriguing sport, one which most Canadians have never heard of.
Friday and Saturday featured the exciting conclusions of both the Men’s and Women’s Open and Match Play events at the 2008 World Paddle Tennis Championships.
Day four of the 2008 World Paddle Tennis Championships featured exciting quarter-final action and many very loud fans. The following are a few highlights of the day’s events.
The winner was to place in the second bracket of the men’s match play finals earning the right to play for 5th to 8th place. The loser would drop to the third bracket where they would have to compete for 9th to 11th, so there was a lot at stake.
Court 3 at the Calgary Soccer Centre was host to the most exciting match of the evening as Team USA faced off against Portugal in the final match of the round robin stage of the men’s match play event Tuesday evening.
It was an action packed day as the quarter final bracketing was decided in both the men’s and women’s open and the team match play events completed their round robin stages.
The action heated up during Day 2 of the World Paddle Tennis Championships featuring the first round of the Women’s Open and the second round of the Men’s Open.
An action-packed day one of the 2008 World Paddle Tennis Championships featured showdowns between rivals Mexico and Brazil in the women’s team match play event. Team USA and Team Canada also played in the men’s team match play event facing off against Brazil and Switzerland respectively.
