NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the winner of the micro-apartment design competition Tuesday. NYC seeks alternative housing development proposals as singles and couples continue to make up most of the city’s demographic.

The deadline for submissions for the city’s micro-apartment program has ended, with 33 proposals received.

Some residents in other mega cities, including London and Tokyo, have been cramming into nooks for years.

With the crime-ridden days of the 1970s and ’80s a distant memory, people from around the world are once again flocking to work in the Big Apple.
