In an effort to bring tourists and recognition to more of New York’s old and beautiful buildings, the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended 21 new sites to the National Register of Historic Places.
The city’s subway system is aging. Brooklyn’s Avenue H Station House was built in 1906. The MTA had decided to tear it down and replace it, but the community banded together and restored it.
Safeguarding historic buildings from disrepair and development has fallen on the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) since 1965, but the battle over the buildings is intensifying.
A lot of effort is spent on preserving the city’s historical landmarks and sites. The Epoch Times asked New Yorkers: “Do you think it’s important to preserve historic sites and landmarks?”
