The government has denied Henry Staunton’s claim that he was told by a senior civil servant to ‘stall’ spending on compensation to subpostmasters.

Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch said she asked Mr. Staunton to step down over issues around the governance of the Post Office.

Dan Neidle, tax lawyer, posted on X saying the Post Office claimed £934m tax relief for its compensation payments, and called it ‘unlawful.’

More than 700 Post Office workers were wrongly accused in the Horizon IT scandal, that saw some wrongfully convicted and sent to prison.
