America’s higher education is in trouble. Graduation rates for low-income students have been stagnant since the 1970s.

There is a new data collection system in place for high school graduation rates, and the numbers for 2011 were released this week.

Although the city’s graduation rate was only 65.5 percent this year, recognition has to be given to the struggles some students went through to be part of that percentage.
