The policing strategies of the NYPD have been a hot topic in this year’s mayoral election, but Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Monday the candidates have missed the most important point: fighting terrorism.
The storyline of the day in the mayoral race was the back and forth exchanges between Christine Quinn and Bill de Blasio’s campaigns. However, it was not the storyline of the night’s first official Democratic mayoral debate.
On Tuesday, Democratic mayoral hopeful Bill Thompson became the first to outline how his administration would deal with the controversial police practice of stop and frisk. The practice has received heavy criticism from all of the Democratic mayoral candidates.
The city teacher’s union has spent $580,000 on Bill Thompson’s mayoral campaign since endorsing him on June 19. The money was spent on several version of mass mailers, a palm card, a radio ad, and three versions of robocalls, according the New York City Campaign Finance Board filings.
Democratic mayoral hopeful Bill Thompson’s campaign raised close to $600,000 for this filing period, doubling the last three-month filing period, according to Thompson’s Chief Strategist Jonathan Prince.
