A Florida teenager who went missing in Miami while jogging was found dead near a marina, officials said.
Diani Gomez Sanchez, 16, went missing on Saturday and was found Sunday afternoon, authorities said, reported Miami Patch. Her mother told local media outlets that she reported the teen missing on Saturday evening after returning home from work and realized her daughter had vanished.
Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo later confirmed Monday that she was killed during a hit-and-run crash involving a gray vehicle, according to Local10.
The gray vehicle suffered “significant windshield damage,” he said. Acevedo then said, “Anyone that has seen a gray vehicle or knows anyone that has a gray vehicle that has disappeared to let us know.”
Her uncle, Dennis Gomez, said on Facebook Live that he and his wife discovered the girl’s body when they were putting up flyers.
“I was screaming ‘Get up Diani! Get up! Please, get up!’” he said.
According to Local10, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department is still examining the girl’s cause of death.
A relative, meanwhile, started a GoFundMe page for the family.
“Hi my name Nahun Gomez and I’m fundraising for my cousins daughter Dayana Carolina Gomez Sanchez who died,” it reads. “Dayana was only 16 years old when someone decided to take her life away. We are asking for anything. ANYTHING HELPS. Everything you donate will be given to her mother. She was a very sweet beautiful girl. We will miss her very much.”
