The home of Laguna Beach City Manager Shohreh Dupuis was smeared with feces or sewage in the front yard, on the mailbox, on planters, stairs, and a walkway Feb. 9, authorities say.
Officers responded to the vandalism around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday at Dupuis’s home on 3rd Avenue, according to city officials.
Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen in a statement called the act a “shocking personal attack” on Dupuis.
“As a City, we will not tolerate any acts to intimidate or harm any city employee or appointed or elected official,” he said. “She doesn’t deserve this disrespect, and I fully expect our community to rally around her.”
The city and Dupuis split the ownership of the home, per her employment contract, according to city officials.
Laguna Beach Police Chief Jeff Calvert said in a statement the department is actively investigating the “cruel act, which is uncharacteristic of our community.”
She is Laguna Beach’s first female city manager, with a base salary of $275,000.
Previously, she was the city’s assistant manager for five years.
